Oliver’s paintings and sculptures focus on the social, cultural and spiritual life of Ireland in the 20th century. He describes his practice as lying “between realism and surrealism”, with a tendency towards abstraction.

His main influences are the Romanian sculptor, Constantine Brancusi and the English sculptor, Henri Moore, the painters Marc Chagall, Francis Bacon and the painters Van Gogh and Gauguin.

Oliver connects deeply with the full richness of the Irish cultural heritage, it's music and mysticism, it's writers and poets, and he feels at ease with the metaphysical and spiritual nature of reality.

Many of Oliver’s art pieces can be found in private collections in Ireland, England, Scotland, the Netherlands, Germany, and France.
